Microsoft Excel is defined as a powerful and highly effective business solution for managing and filtering data especially numeric values. It contains different features that a lot of companies make use of, including the advanced functions of pivot tables. At first, this feature sounds and even looks very complicated. But in the long run, proper training is the only thing required to get the most out of this important feature. Small and even big establishments these days choose Microsoft Excel against other database and software applications because Excel has better features and functionalities, not to mention it is cheaper as compared to other database applications found in the market. It is just a matter of understanding how to utilize and make the most out of it. Most companies these days have started to make it a requirement that the person should have advanced knowledge and skills in Microsoft Excel. Although there are very basic functions and skills that a general Excel user can do, there are advanced and more complicated functions that an intermediate user can perform.

In general, Pivot Tables are used in the development of different spreadsheets. This is utilized especially if you have a huge database or list of values and data. To produce meaningful information, you only have to drag and drop different cells and values to obtain results. The only thing that would take a couple of minutes would be setting up the table. But as soon as you already have your table ready, the next things and the next few spreadsheets to come can be handled easier and faster.

Pivot tables are used for filtering people with similar names (or similar values), finding out the percentage of your total sales for the entire month while comparing it with the sales generated in the previous months, get the sum and average of specific values and many others. These are just some of the basic things that you can do with Excel, and many more can be done upon exploring more of its features. Its advantages include extracting meaningful and relevant information especially if you’re dealing with large numbers and a huge database. You can do these and sort information within a couple of minutes, and there is no need for you to manually go through your entire database to obtain these types of information. In short, it makes people’s work easier and faster. Aside from saving you time, this also saves you more effort and more computer space, since you already have default spreadsheets ready and you only have to load them every time you need to sort or filter values.

Pivot tables and pivot charts are simply the most powerful and widely used features of Microsoft Excel. Headers or labels, row and column values are widely used in this function. The important thing for you to remember when it comes to pivottables is that you have to remember that you need to create a default spreadsheet, and changing the values, sorting data and filtering results can be easily performed afterwards.
